After a couple of years of researching materials, clothes psychology and fashion I decided it is time to test the design system I have developed by creating something myself! Something that will add positive experience to a wearer’s life, like the feeling of beauty, comfort, warmth and attention. Since my mom was the inspiration to enter the creation side of fashion many years ago, I asked her to be part of this as well.
The design system I developed is meant to balance fashion and systainability. It works in theory and what I would like to do now, is test it.
The ingredients for this project were: high quality relationship, fulfilment of fysical and psychological needs, good materials and fair production.
Those ingredients ended up in becoming two models of scarves, handknitted by my mother and myself from baby-alpaca and a alpaca-cashemere-silk blend yarns. The chosen yarns are very light weighted, which has resulted in scarves weighting between 150 and 250 grams while their sizes are 1,10 x 1,10 meters! Although the scarves are very light, they are also very warm, 7 times warmer than lamb’s wool to be specific. Alpaca wool is soft, anti-allergic and it wears off four times slower than merino wool.
Since this is the first collection, I chose for black and white instead of colors. The white yarns have the natural color of the wool, so those yarns haven’t been dyed, which has kept them pure and natural.
How does this work?
The way I have designed those scarves is based on the design system I have developed one and half years ago. There are two parties in this system, the fashion creator and the fashion wearer. Being in the role of a fashion creator I have done my part:
- I have designed based on the physical and psychological needs.
- I have knitted the scarves together with someone I trust and who trusts me.
- I am being transparant about the production.
For the next step I need you. I need people who are willing to step into this new fashion together with me. I would love to get to know you and build a close clothes relationship with you based on trust and commitment.
Stepping in and taking the next step with me means for you that:
- You are prepared to buy or rent a scarve.
- You are prepared to give me feedback about your experience with the scarve.
- You can always contact me for information about the maintenance of your scarve.
The scarves are open for pre-order from today on (date: 2nd of November 2013). You can let me know that you either want to buy a scarve or that you want to rent it for two weeks.
The scarves are 150 euro’s each if you want to buy one, and 40 euro’s if you would like to rent one for two weeks. Once I receive the payment I will send you the scarve in a protected box. From here on the testing of the system can begin.
Imagine me asking you what your favourite piece of clothing is and you not being able to choose. That is my goal: designing clothes that fulfil all your fysical and psychological needs and producing them in a way that is fair to the environment and people who make them. It is possible in theory and now I am testing it in reality.
